Yet another school shooting

Yet another school shooting has taken place -- I've blogged previously about the recent uptick of this phenomenon -- with a former student shooting a principal. It is the second incident/near-incident this month in my home state of Wisconsin, which was for the most part unaffected by the late-90s rash of violence.

The last few weeks' shootings seem much more varied, however. Where the late '90s mainly saw high school kids shooting other high school kids, lately we've seen a college shooting, a 53-year-old barging in with weapons and now a former student shooting a faculty member.

One possibility that's occurred to me, especially regarding the Wisconsin events, is that the media simply increased coverage of these events in the wake of the Montreal shooting. Much like the every-so-often "missing children" kick journalists get on, it could have nothing to do with an actual change in these incidents' nationwide frequency.
