I work in downtown DC, and one of my coworkers came back from a food run today commenting that Kazakhstan's president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, was speaking just a few blocks away. He joked that Borat -- the Jewish comedian who pretends to be an anti-Semitic, misogynist Kazakh journalist for The Ali G Show -- must be there.
Well, it turns out he was, and he did a "news segment" from the site, later heading to the White House to invite Bush to his new eponymous movie.
Perhaps the funniest thing about Borat's shtick is that, since Americans know nothing about Kazakhstan, he can get away with saying just about anything. The response of the actual Kazakh government is quite amusing as well.
